- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Fill a report spec from Marcus's request as seven plain-text lines labeled exactly Report name:, Object:, Filters:, Columns:, Group by:, Date range:, Open question:. "Last quarter" means Q3 2026 (2026-07-01 to 2026-09-30). The Open question is one question about anything the request leaves undefined. Under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Wrong quarter. The AI uses last calendar quarter relative to its own date. Try: Add: "Last quarter means 2026-07-01 to 2026-09-30."
- Missing the closed filter. The AI counts all deals over 50k. Try: Add: "Filter Stage = Closed-Won and Amount > 50000."
- Ignoring naming rule. The AI invents 'Big Deals Report'. Try: Add: "Report name follows Team_Topic_Period."
- Several questions or no labels. The AI asks many questions or writes a paragraph. Try: Add: "Seven plain-text lines with these labels; Open question is one question; under 90 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Lists the labels
- Defines the period
- Names the filters
- Naming convention
- Plain text and cap
