Decide a lead-SLA extension request against the policy
- For Revenue operations
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Rule on the request below using the policy only. Write plain text under 70 words with exactly three lines: line 1 starts Decision: followed by exactly one of Approve, Approve with change, or Decline. Approve with change means approving a shorter window that fits the policy; use it whenever the request is too long but a shorter window would fit, and use Decline only if no window fits. Line 2 starts Reason: and is one sentence citing the numbers. Line 3 starts Counter-offer: with exact dates, or None.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Approving as asked. The AI is accommodating and approves all 8 days. Try: Add: "Exceptions longer than 5 business days need the CRO; this request is 8."
- No exact dates. The AI counters with "a shorter window". Try: Add: "Counter-offer must give exact start and end dates."
- Hedging the decision. The AI writes "Approve or Decline depending on...". Try: Add: "Pick exactly one of Approve, Approve with change, Decline."
- Wrong format. The AI writes a memo with bold headings. Try: Add: "Three plain-text lines, under 70 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the three lines
- Limits the decision choices
- Cites the policy numbers
- Wants exact dates
- Uses only the policy
