About this exercise

Write a thank-you email to a customer who referred a new prospect. Line 1 must be exactly "Subject: Thank you for the introduction". Start with "Hi Camille,". Plain text under 60 words. Say what happened as a result (from the notes), thank her specifically, and don't offer a gift, credit or discount or mention the prospect's deal size. Sign off "Ravi".

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Offering a reward. The AI mentions a referral credit. Try: Add: "No gift, credit or discount; don't mention the referral program."
  • Sharing prospect details. The AI includes the deal size or call content. Try: Add: "Don't share what Alexei said or the deal size."
  • Asking for more referrals. The AI asks who else she knows. Try: Add: "Don't ask for another referral."
  • Wrong subject or length. The AI writes a long note. Try: Add: "Exact subject; plain text under 60 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Sets subject and opener
  • States the result
  • Bans rewards
  • Protects the prospect
  • Sets the sign-off
