Write a post that matches your shop's past posts
Practice: Showing an example of what you want. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You run Spoke & Pedal, a bike repair shop, and need an Instagram post announcing winter hours and the winter tune-up special. Match your two past posts: a short question first, no emojis, under 40 words, plain text, and the same last line ("Swing by 418 Alder St." followed by your two shop hashtags, no others). Use the corrected hours and leave out anything that isn't decided yet. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not pointing to your examples. Without your past posts as a model, the AI writes a generic post full of emojis and exclamation points. Try: Add: "Match the style of my two past posts: short question first, no emojis."
- Losing your usual ending. AI ends with a call to action of its own and 8-10 trendy hashtags, but your posts always end the same way. Try: Add: "End with the same last line as my past posts: Swing by 418 Alder St. #spokeandpedal #ridelocal"
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 40 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 10 words."
- Missing the correction or adding a sale. The first hours in the notes include Sunday, and the AI may also announce the holiday sale that isn't decided. Try: Add: "Use the Nov 3 corrected hours and the $49 tune-up through Jan 31. No holiday sale."
- Forgetting it's going on Instagram. AI may bold the hours, and Instagram shows that as stray asterisks. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold."
What a strong prompt includes
