Check an AI search answer's growth math against the filing
- For Finance and accounting
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
An AI search tool summarized Corvane Industries' Q3 2026 results for your team's watch list, and you have the filing excerpt. Write exactly 4 numbered lines, one per claim, each showing the check as math from the filing (like 138 / 120 = 1.15, so 15%) and ending with Right or Wrong. Plain text, under 100 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for a quick check. The AI eyeballs the numbers and agrees with the answer. Try: Say: "Check each claim with math from the filing."
- Not showing the math. The AI says "revenue grew" without the division, so you can't check its check. Try: Show the shape: "138 / 120 = 1.15, so 15%."
- Missing the date trap. The $90 million is in the filing, just for the wrong date. Try: Add: "Use the quarter-end figure, Sept 30."
- Verdict first. The AI leads with Right or Wrong and then justifies it, which hides mistakes. Try: Add: "Math first, then end each line with Right or Wrong."
- Long or formatted output. AI adds bold labels and a summary paragraph. Try: Add: "Each line under 22 words, plain text, nothing else."
What a strong prompt includes
