Check an AI search answer's salary claims against its sources
- For Job seekers
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Before your offer call with Brightline Logistics, an AI search tool gave you an answer about the Operations Analyst role with 5 claims and numbered citations. Check each claim only against the source it cites and write exactly 5 numbered lines labeled Supported, Not in source, or Contradicted. Each Contradicted line must give what the source actually says. Plain text, under 100 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking "is this right?". The AI gives a general take on salaries instead of checking each claim against its citation. Try: Say: "Check each claim only against the source it cites."
- Not using exact labels. Words like "mostly accurate" blur the difference between missing and wrong. Try: Add: "Label each Supported, Not in source, or Contradicted."
- Not asking what the source says. The AI flags a claim as wrong but doesn't give you the real number to bring to the call. Try: Add: "For Contradicted, give what the source actually says."
- Getting extra advice. The AI adds negotiation tips you didn't ask for, which pushes you over your length. Try: Add: "Output only the 5 lines."
- Getting markdown back. AI bolds the labels, which clutters your call notes. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold."
What a strong prompt includes
- Checks each claim against its own source
- Gives exact labels
- Asks what the source really says
