Research an apartment from its listing and city pages
- For Parents and households
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You're looking at a 3-bedroom on Larkin Street for your family of four with a dog. Using the newest page when pages disagree, write exactly 5 numbered lines labeled Rent:, Move-in cost:, School:, Red flag: and Ask landlord:, where Move-in cost: shows the math (first month + deposit + fees = total). Plain text, under 110 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not saying which page wins. The AI quotes the first listing's rent and the old school map. Try: Add: "When pages disagree, use the newest one."
- No math shown. The AI gives a move-in total without the parts, and often forgets the pet deposit. Try: Show it: "Move-in cost: first month + deposit + fees = total."
- Missing the safety record. The inspection page is last, and the AI focuses on price and schools. Try: Add: "Red flag: anything from the inspection record."
- Long or formatted output. AI writes a pros-and-cons list with bold headings. Try: Add: "Exactly 5 numbered lines, each under 20 words, plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
