Plan a reading pace to finish a novel on time

Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

You have to finish a 240-page novel for English before the discussion, and some days are busy. Get exactly 5 numbered lines, one per reading day, each in the form 'Day: pages X-Y (N pages)', plain text, ending on page 240 the day before the discussion. Skip the days you can't read, and use the corrected page count from Ms. Reyes.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Not saying how many days. The AI picks its own number, and it usually picks more days than you need. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered days."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Fix the shape: "day, page range, count, nothing else."
  • Leaving out your schedule. The AI spreads pages over every day, including your game night and the discussion day. Try: Add: "No reading Thursday or Monday."
  • Using the syllabus number. Both 280 and 240 are in your material. Try: Add: "The book ends on page 240, per Ms. Reyes."
  • Not showing the math. Without page counts, you can't tell if a day is overloaded. Try: Show the shape: "Tue: pages 1-48 (48 pages)".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the blocked days
  • Uses the correction
