About this exercise
You're running the three-way match on five invoices. Write a prompt for a markdown table with columns Invoice, Price variance %, Quantity ok and Result, in the listed order. Price variance % is the billed price minus the PO price, divided by the PO price, shown as an absolute percent with one decimal. Quantity ok is Yes only if received quantity is at least the billed quantity. Result is Pass only if the price variance is at most 2.0% and Quantity ok is Yes; otherwise Hold. Under 110 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Excluding the lower price. The AI treats the INV-4 discount as fine without testing it. Try: Say: "Use the absolute variance; a lower price is still measured."
- Counting the next truck. The AI passes INV-3 because the units are coming. Try: Add: "Quantity ok uses recorded received quantity only."
- Boundary error. The AI holds the invoices at exactly 2.0%. Try: Add: "At most 2.0% passes."
- Wrong table shape. The AI changes the columns. Try: Add: "Columns Invoice, Price variance %, Quantity ok, Result."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the columns
- States the tolerance
- Uses absolute variance
- Defines quantity ok
- Caps length
