Brief an assistant to assemble a review packet you can trust
- For Managers and team leads
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You want an AI assistant to assemble a performance review packet from the sources below. Write its brief: add sections for Goals, Self-review and Peer feedback using only what the sources say, keep peer feedback anonymous (no names), add a Rating section left blank for you, save as a draft, and never share the document. Output exactly 6 numbered plain-text lines: 4 add_section lines in that order, save_draft, then DONE.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not showing the log format. Left alone, the AI writes a friendly report with headings instead of a checkable action log. Try: Show it literally: "Format every line like 1. ACTION: tool(args), then ASK_HUMAN: and DONE: lines. Plain text."
- Allowing a rosier story. The AI rounds 3.4 hours to "met the goal" or adds praise that isn't in the sources. Try: Add: "Use only what the sources say. Report results exactly."
- Not protecting peers or your call. The AI quotes peers by name and fills in a rating for you. Try: Add: "Peer feedback with no names. Leave Rating blank."
- Letting it share. Given share_doc, the AI sends the packet to Sam. Try: Add: "Save as a draft. Never share."
What a strong prompt includes
- Rules out made-up data
- Keeps peers anonymous
- Leaves the rating to you
- Forbids sharing
- Shows the action-log format
