Write a reusable goal check-in email with bracket fields
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write a reusable check-in email template. Line 1 is "Subject:" with 6 words or fewer. Exactly 4 sentences. Use only these bracket fields: [first name], [goal], [current], [target], [date]. Last line exactly "[csm name], Customer Success". Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using old merge fields. The old template uses {{customer}}. Try: Say: "Use only the given bracket fields."
- Missing a field. The AI skips [current] or [date]. Try: Say: "Cover goal, current vs target, next step with date, invite to reply."
- Wrong sentence count or lines. The AI writes six sentences. Try: Say: "Exactly 4 sentences; subject 6 words or fewer; exact last line."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
- Names the fields
- Fixes the sentence count
