Plan a detractor call as a four-step checklist

About this exercise

Plan the call with Marcia as exactly four checklist lines starting "[ ]" in this order: Listen, Own, Explain, Offer. Start each with the step word and a colon. The Offer line is the only one that mentions the credit. Plain text, under 110 words. Do not defend or make excuses.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Making excuses. The notes mention the rushed release and the AI offers it as context. Try: Add: "Do not defend or make excuses."
  • Offering too early. The AI mentions the credit in the first step. Try: Say: "Only the Offer line mentions the credit."
  • Wrong shape. The AI writes a narrative agenda with times. Try: Say: "Four lines starting [ ] in this order."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a length limit
  • Sets the step order
  • Bans excuses
