Tell a sponsor an integration slipped without excuses
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Getting the tone right
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write an email to Ms. Varga. Line 1 is "Subject:" with 7 words or fewer. Use exactly 4 sentences: the new date, the cause on our side, what we are doing, and one thing we need from her. No excuses and no blame. Last line exactly "Raf, Customer Success". Plain text.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Blaming the data. The teammate's note says the customer's data is messy. Try: Add: "No excuses and no blame."
- Burying the new date. The AI explains first and gives the date last. Try: Say: "Sentence 1 is the new date."
- Wrong sentence count or lines. The AI writes six sentences and a generic subject. Try: Say: "Exactly 4 sentences; subject 7 words or fewer; exact last line."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
