Send a QBR pre-read with three placeholders and a time estimate
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write the pre-read email for the QBR. Line 1 is "Subject:" with 7 words or fewer. Then exactly three bullets starting "-", one per attachment, each with its placeholder ([link 1], [link 2], [link 3]) and a reading time. Then one sentence on the total reading time, then exactly the sentence "Please read before Thursday." Last line exactly "Mei, Customer Success". Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Adding the internal sheet. The AI lists the forecast sheet as a fourth attachment. Try: Say: "Only the three attachments; no internal sheets."
- Missing reading times. The AI lists links without times. Try: Say: "Each bullet has its reading time; total 10 minutes."
- Wrong subject or sign-off. The AI writes a long subject and signs 'Best'. Try: Give the limits and the exact last line.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Caps the bullets
