Summarize a sponsor call into decided, open and next
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Summarize the call notes for the account team in exactly three lines starting "Decided:", "Open:" and "Next:". Decided lists only agreed items. Next names an owner and a date for each action. Plain text, under 65 words. Leave out small talk.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Listing undecided items as decided. The AI treats the 4th school as agreed. Try: Say: "Decided = agreed items only. Undecided items go under Open."
- Missing owners and dates. The AI writes 'send the list'. Try: Say: "Next: owner and date for each action."
- Including small talk or ideas. The AI adds the marathon and the custom report. Try: Say: "Leave out small talk and ideas."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit

- Separates agreed from open
