Write an English and French macro with identical fields and facts
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write one macro in two lines starting "EN:" and "FR:", then a third line exactly "Reviewed by: Léa". Both versions use {{refund_amount}} exactly once and no other merge field, give the same timing, and the French one uses "vous". Plain text, each of the two macro lines under 30 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Translating the merge field. The AI writes {{montant}}. Try: Say: "Keep {{refund_amount}} exactly in both."
- Using the old timing. The AI picks 3 to 5. Try: Say: "5 to 10 business days."
- Using tu. The AI uses informal French. Try: Say: "Use formal vous."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the labels and last line
- Keeps the merge field
- Asks for vous and the timing
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
