List the next four charge dates for a month-end billing customer
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Output a table with the header "Charge | Date" and four rows for the next four monthly charges after the first one, then a last line "Why: ..." in one sentence under 20 words that explains the February date to the customer. Use the rule in the policy. Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Rolling into March. The AI says Mar 3. Try: Say: "If a month is shorter, charge on its last day."
- Staying on the 28th. The AI keeps Feb 28 for every month. Try: Say: "It returns to the 31st when the month has it."
- No explanation line. The AI skips the Why line. Try: Say: "End with a Why: sentence."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the table header
- Applies the month-end rule
- Asks for the Why line
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
