Give factual Situation-Behavior-Impact feedback without labels
- For Managers and team leads
- You practice Getting the tone right
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write feedback to Rami as four lines starting "Situation:", "Behavior:", "Impact:" and "Ask:", then the line "Next 1:1: Thu Nov 12". State only observable facts from the log. Do not use words that judge him as a person, such as careless, lazy or sloppy. Plain text, under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Judging the person. The AI writes 'you were careless'. Try: Say: "Observable facts only; no judging words."
- Vague behavior. The AI says 'you handled it poorly'. Try: Say: "Behavior is what he did, with the time and rule."
- Missing the last line. The AI ends with the Ask. Try: Quote the final line.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the four labels
- Bans judging words
- Quotes the final line
- Asks for plain text
