Count customer feedback into a top-three table with a left-out line
- For Product managers
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Count the ten snippets by theme. Output a table with the header "Theme | Count | Example" and the three themes with the highest counts, most first. The Example column is a short quote of at most 6 words taken from a snippet. Then a last line "Left out: theme (count)" for the theme not in the table. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Splitting themes. The AI counts dark theme and dark mode separately. Try: Say: "Count the same request together."
- Long or invented quotes. The AI paraphrases or quotes whole snippets. Try: Say: "A real quote of at most 6 words."
- No left-out line. The AI shows only the table. Try: Say: "End with Left out: theme (count)."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the table header
- Limits quotes
- Asks for the left-out line
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
