Write a holiday hours banner from a calendar
- For Small business owners
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write the website holiday hours banner. Line 1 is exactly "Holiday hours". Then one line per changed day, formatted "Dec 24: 9 AM-2 PM" or "Dec 25: Closed", in date order. Last line exactly "Back to normal hours Jan 2.". Leave out unchanged days. Plain text, under 45 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Listing unchanged days. The AI lists every day in the period. Try: Say: "Only days that differ from normal."
- Wrong line format. The AI writes sentences. Try: Show: Dec 24: 9 AM-2 PM or Dec 25: Closed.
- Missing first or last line. The AI adds its own title and greeting. Try: Give the first and last lines exactly.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
