Write a one-line on-call page with confirmed numbers only
- For IT teams
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Advanced
About this exercise
Write the page as one line with five parts separated by " | " in this order: severity, account, impact, what has been tried, the ask. Use only confirmed numbers from monitoring, not the customer's estimate. Plain text, one line, under 45 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the customer's 500. The AI repeats the customer's estimate. Try: Say: "Use confirmed monitoring numbers only."
- Wrong order or separators. The AI uses bullets or commas. Try: Say: "Five parts separated by ' | ' in this order."
- Vague ask. The AI says 'please investigate'. Try: Say: "The ask names the 13:30 deploy."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Lists the five parts in order
- Uses confirmed numbers
- Sets a tight length
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
