Plan outage messages by customer segment with deadlines
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
The incident was declared at 09:00. Output a table with the header "Audience | Channel | By" and five rows in the order Everyone, Enterprise, Enterprise over $50k, Pro, Free, with the 24-hour deadline from the rules. Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Giving Free an email. The AI adds email for Free accounts. Try: Say: "Free is status page only."
- Wrong deadline for the phone call. The AI uses 09:30 for the call. Try: Say: "The call is within 45 minutes."
- Wrong order or header. The AI re-orders audiences. Try: Give the header and the row order.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the header
- Lists the five rows in order
- Uses the declaration time
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
