Compute outage credits per account with tier boundaries
- For Operations and supply chain
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Advanced
About this exercise
Start with the line "CREDIT RUN - Nov 2 outage". Then output a table with the header "Account | Minutes | Credit" and five rows A to E, with the credit in dollars, and a last line "Total credit: $N". Boundaries are inclusive as written in the rules. Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Mishandling the 30 and 120 edges. The AI gives B nothing or D 10%. Try: Say: "30 to 120 includes both ends."
- Using the wrong percentage base. The AI takes a percentage of minutes. Try: Say: "Percent of the monthly fee."
- Missing the exact lines. The AI skips the title or total. Try: Quote the title and the total line.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the title
- Gives the header
- States the tiers
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
