Route five refunds to approvers with a VIP tier uplift
- For Operations and supply chain
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Advanced
About this exercise
Output a table with the header "Refund | Approver" and five rows R1 to R5, then a last line "Director total: $N" adding the amounts routed to Director. Approvers are Agent, Lead or Director. A VIP account moves up one tier (Agent to Lead, Lead to Director). Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Ignoring the VIP uplift. The AI routes R2 to Agent. Try: Say: "VIP moves up one tier."
- Wrong total. The AI sums all refunds or only the R5 amount. Try: Say: "Add only the amounts routed to Director."
- Missing table format. The AI writes prose. Try: Give the header and the exact last line.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the table header
- Mentions the VIP uplift
- Gives the total line
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
