Write a store-credit expiry email without pressure tactics
- For Small business owners
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write the email. The first line must be exactly "Subject: Your store credit expires soon". Use the merge fields {{first_name}}, {{credit_amount}} and {{expiry_date}} exactly once each and no other merge fields. Do not use pressure words such as "hurry", "last chance" or "don't miss out". Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Reusing the old template. The AI uses {{amount}} and pressure words. Try: Say: "Exactly these three merge fields; no pressure words."
- Missing the subject line. The AI writes its own subject or none. Try: Give the exact first line in quotes.
- Skipping how to use it. The AI only warns about expiry. Try: Say: "Say how to use the credit."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the subject line
- Names the merge fields
- Bans pressure words
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
