- For Managers and team leads
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
The meeting runs 10:00 to 10:30. Drop the item marked nice to have and cut Macro changes to 5 minutes; keep the other times. Output a table with the header "Start | Topic | Owner" with the start time of each remaining item in the original order, then the last line "Total: N minutes". Plain text, under 60 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Keeping the wishlist. The AI shortens everything instead of dropping the nice-to-have item. Try: Say: "Drop the item marked nice to have."
- Wrong start times. The AI doesn't add up the durations. Try: Say: "Each start time is the previous start plus its duration."
- Not cutting macros. The AI leaves 10 minutes for Macro changes. Try: Say: "Macro changes becomes 5 minutes."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the table header
- States the changes
- Asks for the total line
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
