Write a welcome email with exactly three first steps
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write a welcome email for Tom. First line exactly "Subject: Three steps to get started", then "Hi Tom,", then three lines starting "Step 1:", "Step 2:" and "Step 3:" (each under 15 words), then the line "Welcome aboard, Priti". Use the current onboarding steps only. Plain text.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using retired steps. The AI adds the mobile app or a setup call. Try: Say: "Use only the three current steps."
- Missing the exact lines. The AI writes its own subject and sign-off. Try: Quote the subject, greeting and sign-off.
- Vague steps. The AI says 'connect your bank' with no path. Try: Say: "Include the menu path for each step."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the subject and sign-off
- Names the step labels
- Uses only the current steps
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
