Standardize vendor names into a clean CSV block
- For Operations and supply chain
- You practice Showing an example of what you want
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Your vendor list has the same suppliers spelled several ways and you need standard names. Write one CSV block (one code block) with the header original, standard and one row per name in the same order, at most 12 words outside it. Standard form: Title Case, no punctuation, and no legal ending such as Inc, LLC, Ltd or Co. Acme Tool and Acme Tools are different vendors and must stay different.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Merging the Acme vendors. The AI collapses Acme Tool into Acme Tools because they look the same. Try: Add: "Keep Acme Tools and Acme Tool as two different vendors."
- Leaving suffixes and hyphens. The AI keeps Inc, LLC or the hyphen in Delta-Freight. Try: Add: "Remove punctuation, hyphens and endings like Inc, LLC, Ltd, Co."
- Changing row order. The AI groups duplicates together or sorts alphabetically. Try: Add: "9 rows in the same order, original copied exactly."
- Leaving the format to chance. The AI picks its own length and layout unless told the exact shape. Try: Add: "Put the code in exactly 1 code block. Keep the writing outside the code under 12 words."
