Write a banner message for a dashboard with delayed data
- For Business analysts
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Your revenue dashboard's data is behind and you need a banner for the top of the page. Write exactly 3 labeled lines in plain text, under 55 words: Notice, Affected and Not affected. Notice is one sentence with the date the data runs through and when it will be fixed; the other two list the dashboard tiles, using the exact tile names.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Vague dates. The AI says 'data is delayed' with no dates. Try: Add: "Data runs through Nov 4; fixed by Nov 8 at 6:00 pm."
- Wrong tile names. The AI paraphrases tiles as 'sales' or 'margins'. Try: Add: "Use the exact tile names."
- Explaining the cause. The AI explains the billing load failure. Try: Add: "Don't say why it failed."
- Leaving the format to chance. The AI picks its own length and layout unless told the exact shape. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headings."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example "each line under 15 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the three labels
- Gives the dates
- Names the tiles
- Rules out the cause
- Caps length
