Write the help text for a dashboard tile
- For Business analysts
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You're adding hover help text to the Net Revenue Retention tile. Write exactly 3 labeled lines in plain text, under 80 words: What it shows:, How it's calculated: and Updated:. Use the exact period and source from the notes, plain words a sales manager understands, and no jargon like 'cohort' or 'MRR'.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Defining it with jargon. The AI uses MRR and cohort in the definition. Try: Add: "No words like cohort or MRR."
- Leaving out new customers. The AI says 'revenue growth' and misses the exclusion. Try: Add: "Say new customers are not included."
- Vague refresh. The AI says 'updated regularly'. Try: Add: "Updated: 3rd business day of each month, after the books close."
- Leaving the format to chance. The AI picks its own length and layout unless told the exact shape. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headings."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example "each line under 15 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the three labels
- Bans jargon
- Heads off the misconception
- Gives the refresh timing
- Caps length
