Turn an ops dashboard into a three-bullet Slack post
- For Operations and supply chain
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Your VP of Operations, Dev Kapoor, wants Monday's dashboard as a Slack post. Write plain text under 75 words: a first line 'Ops, Mon Nov 3:' then exactly 3 bullets starting with '-'. Bullet 1 is the one number that needs action, bullet 2 the biggest improvement, and bullet 3 one thing to ignore until the data is fixed.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Treating all metrics equally. The AI summarizes every KPI in a paragraph. Try: Add: "3 bullets: action needed, best improvement, ignore for now."
- Missing the broken feed. The AI reports 61% inventory accuracy as a crisis. Try: Add: "Ignore inventory accuracy: the feed broke, re-run Tuesday."
- Wrong first line. The AI opens with a greeting or heading. Try: Add: "Line 1 exactly: Ops, Mon Nov 3:"
- Leaving the format to chance. The AI picks its own length and layout unless told the exact shape. Try: Add: "At most 3 bullets. Plain text, no bold or headings."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example "each line under 15 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the reader
- Sets the three bullets
- Names the backlog
- Handles the broken metric
- Fixes the first line
