Script a 30-second chart walkthrough for the COO

  • For Executives
  • You practice Asking for a format you can use
  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Intermediate

About this exercise

Marcus Bell, the COO, will present the weekly active users chart to the board and needs a script. Write exactly 4 spoken sentences in plain text, under 90 words: what the chart shows, the one thing to notice, how far we are from the goal, and the one decision he needs from the board. Write numbers as spoken, with the word percent, and no symbols.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using symbols and digits. The AI writes 48,200 and 43.9% which are awkward aloud. Try: Add: "Write numbers as spoken and use the word percent."
  • Missing the ask. The AI ends with 'thank you' and no decision. Try: Add: "Sentence 4 asks the board to extend the referral bonus past Nov 30 for $40,000."
  • Too many details. The AI narrates every week of the chart. Try: Add: "Exactly 4 sentences: what, notice, gap, decision."
  • Leaving the format to chance. The AI picks its own length and layout unless told the exact shape. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headings."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example "each line under 15 words."

What a strong prompt includes
