- For Communications and PR
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Draft a reply to the reporter in plain text, under 60 words. The first line is exactly: Subject: Re: Your question about Calder Freight. Include the approved statement word for word inside quotation marks, thank her for asking, and give the press contact. Do not confirm, deny or hint at anything about layoffs, hiring numbers or the rumor. The last line is exactly: Draft for Comms review before sending.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Hinting at the facts. The AI says "no decisions have been made" or mentions hiring. Try: Say: "Do not confirm, deny or hint at layoffs, hiring or the rumor."
- Paraphrasing the statement. The AI rewrites the approved line. Try: Say: "Include the approved statement word for word in quotation marks."
- Missing contact. The AI forgets the press contact. Try: Say: "Give the press contact."
- Missing exact lines. The AI writes its own subject and sign-off. Try: Say: "First and last lines exactly as given."
- Markdown. The AI bolds the statement. Try: Say: "Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
