About this exercise

Write a customer email in plain text, under 90 words. The first line is exactly: Subject: Lock in today's price for 12 months. State the offer, who it applies to, and the real deadline. Do not invent limited spots, countdown language or words like "hurry" or "last chance". End with the line: Questions? Reply to this email.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Adding fake urgency. The AI adds "only 200 spots" or "last chance". Try: Say: "Do not invent limited spots, countdowns or urgency words."
  • Skipping who is eligible. The AI says all customers can lock in. Try: Say: "Say who it applies to, including that monthly plans are not eligible."
  • Adding the bonus. The AI includes the unapproved discount. Try: Say: "Use only the approved terms."
  • Missing exact lines. The AI writes its own subject and sign-off. Try: Say: "First and last lines exactly as given."
  • Markdown. The AI bolds the deadline. Try: Say: "Plain text."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • States the terms
  • Who it applies to
