Compute cost per hire using the company definition
- For FP&A and financial analysts

About this exercise
You're calculating cost per hire for HR and Finance. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Agency fees:", "Referral bonus:", "Job ads:", "Total:" and "Cost per hire:". Agency fees are 20% of first-year salary. Cost per hire counts recruiting costs only (agency fees, referral bonuses and job ads) divided by the number of hires; equipment and onboarding are left out. Show the math. Under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Adding equipment and onboarding. The AI includes every cost in the material. Try: Say: "Use the company definition: recruiting costs only."
- Fee on all three hires. The AI applies the agency fee to Hire B. Try: Add: "Agency fee applies to agency hires only."
- Skipping the math. The AI states $15,000 with no steps. Try: Add: "Show each calculation."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the five lines
- Uses the company definition
- Applies the agency rate
- Asks for the math
- Caps length
