Build a practice test that matches your real chem test

Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

Your chemistry unit test on atomic structure is Thursday, and Mr. Okafor said it has 3 fill-in-the-blank questions and 2 short-answer questions. Get a practice test in that exact shape: exactly 5 numbered questions, with questions 1-3 fill-in-the-blank (with the missing word shown as [blank]) and questions 4-5 short answer, and one short-answer question must be on isotopes. Put all the answers together at the end under 'Answers', keep it under 160 words and plain text, and use only your notes, including his correction.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Not describing the real test. The AI picks its own mix, usually multiple choice, so you practice a format you won't see on Thursday. Try: Say: "Questions 1-3 fill-in-the-blank with the missing word shown as [blank], questions 4-5 short answer."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each question under 15 words, each answer under 10 words."
  • Answers under each question. Your eyes jump to the answer before you try, and testing yourself only works if you have to recall it. Try: Add: "Put all the answers together at the end under Answers."
  • Skipping the flagged topic. The AI treats every line of your notes as equally important and may leave out what your teacher said is on the test. Try: Add: "One short-answer question must ask me to explain isotopes."
  • Letting old mistakes and rumors in. The wrong line is still in your notes, and the AI may also add topics like quarks that your class never covered. Try: Add: "Use only my notes, and use my teacher's correction: protons decide the element."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Describes the test format
  • Says how many questions
  • Puts answers at the end
  • Mentions isotopes
  • Says to use only the notes
