Sum up patient survey comments for the morning huddle
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You run the clinic's morning huddle and need a quick summary of last week's patient comments. Write exactly 3 bullets labeled "Praise:", "Complaint:" and "Fix:", each under 18 words, plain text. Praise and Complaint each name the most common theme with its count, Fix is the change the manager already approved (not a new idea), and no patient or staff names appear. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- No fixed shape. The AI writes a long report with every comment and recommendations. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 bullets: Praise:, Complaint:, Fix:."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 55 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each bullet under 18 words."
- No counts. The AI says "many patients" instead of how many. Try: Add: "Name the top theme with its count."
- Picking an unapproved fix. The AI suggests online scheduling, which is still just an idea. Try: Add: "Fix: the approved 8-10 AM phone coverage starting Nov 17."
- Naming people. The AI quotes patients by name or calls out staff in a group setting. Try: Add: "No patient or staff names."
What a strong prompt includes
- Shows the 3 labels
- Asks for counts
- Uses the approved fix
- Leaves out names
- Sets a word limit
