Make a lab safety true/false quiz with a separate key

Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

You need a quick lab safety check before Friday's lab. Write exactly 5 numbered true/false statements based only on the safety sheet, at least 2 of them false, then a line that says "Answers" and the key on one line. Use the corrected goggles rule, keep each statement under 15 words, and use plain text. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Not fixing the count. The AI writes 10 questions or mixes in multiple choice. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered true/false statements."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 90 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each statement under 12 words."
  • Using the old rule. Rule 1 still reads the old way; the correction is below it. Try: Add: "Use the corrected goggles rule."
  • All true statements. The AI writes statements that are all true, which tests nothing. Try: Add: "Make at least 2 false."
  • Messy answer key. The AI puts the answer after each statement or explains every one. Try: Add: "Then a line 'Answers' and the key on one line, like 1. T 2. F."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Sets the number of statements
  • Uses the corrected rule
  • Asks for false items
  • Separates the key
  • Sets a word limit
