About this exercise

Build a table for your team meeting with the header Person | New manager | Title | Start date and one row per person. Use the HR update where it is newer than the memo. Write TBC for anything the sources do not settle. Do not guess at pay, layoffs or performance. End with the exact line: HR confirms titles before this is shared. Plain text, under 120 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the memo only. The AI keeps Aug 1 for Priya and her old title. Try: Say: "Use the HR update where it is newer than the memo."
  • Guessing unknowns. The AI invents titles for Joe. Try: Say: "Write TBC for anything the sources do not settle."
  • Repeating the rumor. The AI mentions Analytics cuts. Try: Say: "Do not mention rumors, pay or layoffs."
  • Wrong table. The AI adds columns or text outside the table. Try: Say: "Exactly this header, four rows, then the last line."
  • Markdown. The AI bolds the header. Try: Say: "Plain text."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Gives the header
  • Says to prefer the HR update
  • Uses TBC
  • Bans rumors
  • Gives the closing line
