Send a thank-you after skip-levels that shares themes without names
- For Managers and team leads
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write the thank-you email to the engineers you met in skip-level conversations. Plain text, subject first, under 100 words. Share exactly 3 themes as dash lines, each with a count out of 8 people. Say what you will do about the top theme with a date. Do not name anyone, quote anyone, or promise to fix everything. End with: Thanks for your time and honesty.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Old count. The AI says 6 of 8. Try: Say: "Use 5 of 8."
- Naming or quoting. The AI quotes 'Senior is a mystery'. Try: Say: "No names or quotes."
- Over-promising. The AI says it will fix everything. Try: Say: "Only commit to the criteria by Nov 29."
- Wrong ending. The AI adds a sign-off after. Try: Say: "End with the exact line."
- Markdown. The AI bolds themes. Try: Say: "Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap it: "each line under 20 words."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 12 words."
