About this exercise

Explain our strategy to a new hire in 4 sentences, plain text, under 80 words. Sentence 1: who we serve. Sentence 2: what we do better than others, in plain words. Sentence 3: one thing we have decided not to do. Sentence 4: the number we are trying to hit and the year. Do not use the words disrupt, leverage, ecosystem, solution or best-in-class.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Vague audience and edge. The AI describes the company generically. Try: Say: "Sentence 1: independent grocery chains with 10 to 60 stores; sentence 2: the 2-hour window."
  • Jargon. The AI keeps 'leverage' and 'ecosystem'. Try: Say: "Ban disrupt, leverage, ecosystem, solution, best-in-class."
  • Including undecided ideas. The AI mentions Canada. Try: Say: "Leave out the Canada lane."
  • Missing the not-doing. The AI skips what we won't do. Try: Say: "Sentence 3: one thing we decided not to do."
  • Too many sentences. The AI writes 7. Try: Say: "Exactly 4 sentences."
  • Markdown. The AI adds bullets. Try: Say: "Plain text."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each sentence: "each under 20 words."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 12 words."
