About this exercise

Your team must cut at least $18k from its budget. Compliance training cannot be cut. Choose the combination of items that reaches $18k or more while cutting the smallest total, using the latest figures. Write exactly 3 lines: "Cut:" with the items, "Math:" showing the addition with the figures, like "5 + 4 = 9", and "Recommendation:" with one sentence of at most 20 words for your director. Plain text.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the old figure. The AI cuts the tool for 4. Try: Say: "Use the latest figures from the update."
  • Cutting too much. The AI cuts the trainer too for a bigger total. Try: Say: "Reach $18k or more while cutting the smallest total."
  • Cutting compliance. The AI includes required training. Try: Say: "Compliance training cannot be cut."
  • Wrong format. The AI explains in paragraphs. Try: Say: "Exactly 3 lines: Cut:, Math:, Recommendation:."
  • Markdown. The AI bolds items. Try: Say: "Plain text."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Gives the three labels
  • States the target
  • Asks for the smallest total
  • Says use latest figures
  • Shows the working
