About this exercise

You signed up for a free trial of a design app and don't want to be charged if you forget. From the terms, get exactly 4 numbered lines in plain text, under 70 words: 1. the trial end date, with the date math shown; 2. the last day to cancel without being charged; 3. what you'd be charged and how often, using the updated price; 4. how to cancel. Then a last line "Reminder:" with the date two days before your cancel-by date, for your phone. Use only the terms. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • No date math. The AI says the trial is "30 days" without the end date. Try: Add: "Line 1: October 22 + 30 days = [date]."
  • Missing the price change. The AI quotes $119.99 from the terms and misses the Nov 1 email. Try: Add: "Use the new price from the Nov 1 email if the trial converts after Nov 15."
  • No reminder date. The AI stops at the facts, so nothing makes you act in time. Try: Add: "Last line: Reminder: two days before the cancel-by date."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 70 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 14 words."
  • Leaving the format to the AI. The AI adds a title, bold labels and sub-bullets, which turns a quick note into a page. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings, no intro."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Asks for the date math
  • Uses the new price
  • Asks how to cancel
  • Sets the number of lines
  • Sets a word limit
