Spot the credit report items worth disputing

About this exercise

A landlord will check your credit soon, so you read your credit report against your own records. Get exactly 3 numbered lines, one per item your records say is wrong (skip anything your notes say is accurate), each like "1. Item: what the report shows. My record: what you have." End with the line "This isn't legal or financial advice." Under 100 words, plain text. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Disputing everything. The AI flags every negative item, including the late payment your notes say was really yours. Try: Add: "Only items my records say are wrong. Skip what my notes say is accurate."
  • Not pairing report and records. The AI says items "look suspicious" without the proof you'll need. Try: Show it: "1. Item: what the report shows. My record: what I have."
  • Repeating the friend's claim. The AI picks up the idea that any item can be removed, which isn't something it can promise. Try: Add: "No promises about outcomes. Last line: This isn't legal or financial advice."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 100 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 20 words."
  • Leaving the format to the AI. The AI adds a title, bold labels and sub-bullets, which turns a quick note into a page. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings, no intro."

What a strong prompt includes
