List this month's store events, minus the cancelled one
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You run events at Lantern Lane Books and need the events block for the December newsletter. Write exactly 4 numbered lines in the shape Day, Date - Event - Time, one per December event that's still on, in date order. Leave out the cancelled event and anything outside December, and reply with only the plain-text list.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Copying the calendar. The AI lists every row, including the cancelled open mic and January. Try: Add: "Only December events that are still on."
- Missing the date change. The calendar says Dec 9, and the move is in Bea's notes. Try: Add: "Author talk moved to Wed, Dec 10."
- No line shape. The AI writes a paragraph per event with bold titles. Try: Show it: "Sat, Dec 6 - Event - 10:30am."
- Adding extras. The AI adds an intro and a closing note. Try: Add: "Exactly 4 numbered lines, nothing else."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the line shape
- Filters to December
- Drops the cancelled event
- Uses the date change
- Asks for only the list
