Write a product listing that skips claims you can't back up
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You make candles and sell them on a handmade marketplace. Write the listing description for your new Cedar & Smoke candle: under 60 words, talking to a gift buyer as "you", with the corrected burn time. Don't call it non-toxic, clean or eco-friendly, since your wax supplier can't certify that. End with the exact line "Ships in 2 business days." Plain text.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the correction. The old 60-hour figure comes first, and the AI uses it. Try: Add: "Burn time is about 45 hours, not 60."
- Copying competitor claims. Candle listings online are full of non-toxic and clean-burning claims, so the AI adds them. Try: Add: "Never say non-toxic, clean, eco-friendly or natural."
- Not naming the buyer. The AI writes a generic scent description instead of talking to someone buying a gift. Try: Add: "Talk to a gift buyer as 'you'. End with: Ships in 2 business days."
- Trusting the AI to count words. Listings come back at 100+ words with bullet lists of specs. Try: Cap it: "3 sentences, each under 14 words, then the shipping line."
- Getting markdown. The AI bolds the product name and adds a specs heading. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the corrected burn time
- Bans the unprovable claims
- Names the buyer
- Sets the ending
- Sets a length
