Write a donor newsletter section with verified numbers only
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're writing the "Your impact this month" section of the Oak Valley Literacy Project's donor newsletter. Keep it to 3 sentences at most, use only the verified numbers (not the estimates), protect privacy by naming no students or families, open with the words "Thanks to you," and end with the exact line "Join us at our volunteer open house on Saturday, Dec 6, 10am-noon." Plain text, no heading.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not marking which numbers count. The estimates are bigger and more exciting, so the AI uses 200 kids and 2 grade levels. Try: Add: "Use only the verified numbers. Skip the estimates."
- Forgetting the privacy policy. The AI loves a named story and uses Jaylen, 8. Try: Add: "Never name children or give ages."
- Not saying how to end. The AI ends with a donation ask or a generic thank-you. Try: Add: "End by inviting readers to the Dec 6 open house. No donation ask."
- Letting it run long. Newsletter sections come back as 2 paragraphs with a bold heading. Try: Add: "3 sentences at most, plain text, no heading."
