Draft press release headlines with the audited total
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're the communications lead at Harvest Table Food Bank, writing the press release on the fall fundraising drive. Brainstorm exactly 4 numbered headline options, each under 14 words, each naming Harvest Table and using the audited amount raised, not the pledge total. No exclamation points, plain text, and only the list.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for "a headline". The AI writes one headline plus a subhead, or 10 options under bold categories. Try: Set the count: "Exactly 4 numbered headlines, plain text."
- Grabbing the biggest number. The pledge total comes first and is larger, so the AI uses $450,000. Try: Add: "Use only the audited $412,000, never the pledge total."
- Letting it hype. Press headlines pull the AI toward "record-breaking" and exclamation points. Try: Add: "Never say record. No exclamation points."
- No length or name rule. The AI writes 18-word headlines that start with the drive name and forget the food bank. Try: Add: "Each under 10 words and includes Harvest Table."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many
- Sets a length
- Uses the audited amount
- Rules out hype
- Asks for only the list
