Write a portfolio case study blurb with approved results only
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're a freelance email designer adding a client project to your portfolio. Write exactly 3 sentences labeled Problem:, What I did: and Result:, under 75 words total, using only the results the client approved for public use. Don't name the client's internal revenue figure, and use plain text with nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for "a case study". The AI writes a long case study with headings and bullet lists. Try: Set the shape: "3 sentences labeled Problem:, What I did:, Result:."
- Using the private numbers. Revenue is the most impressive figure, so the AI leads with it. Try: Add: "Only approved numbers. Never the $38,200 or unsubscribes."
- Letting the hype in. Portfolio copy pulls the AI toward "skyrocketed" and "game-changing". Try: Add: "Plain and specific, no buzzwords."
- Trusting the AI to count words. The 3 parts each become a paragraph. Try: Cap each: "Each sentence under 16 words."
- Getting formatting. Labels come back bold. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the 3 labeled parts
- Uses only approved results
- Rules out buzzwords
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a word limit
