Outline a case study showing what you have and what's still missing
- For Marketing and content
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
You're starting a case study on Quarry Print Shop, but the interview was short. Write a prompt for an outline with exactly 5 capital headings (THE CHALLENGE, WHY THEY CHOSE US, WHAT THEY DID, THE RESULT, WHAT'S NEXT), each followed by a "Have:" line using only the notes and a "Need:" line saying what's still missing. Write "Nothing yet" in Have when the notes have nothing. Plain text, under 150 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the sales guess. The AI turns 5 hours a week into a result. Try: Say: "Have lines use only facts from the notes."
- Skipping the missing items. The AI fills every section with plausible text. Try: Say: "Write 'Nothing yet' when the notes have nothing, and list what's missing under Need."
- Missing headings. The AI invents its own section names. Try: List the five headings in capitals.
- Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.
What a strong prompt includes
- Lists the five headings
- Has Have and Need lines
- Uses only notes for Have
- Handles missing material
- Caps length
